American Made is one of those true-life tales that seem so far-fetched that it has to be invented. But like so many other things today, the truth is harder to believe than anything Hollywood could make up. Director Doug Liman teams again with Tom Cruise after their highly entertaining action-adventure Edge of Tomorrow to bring to the screen a CIA-inspired story of airline pilot-turned-U.S. government recruit in the one of the most bizarre and scandalous chapters in American history.
I haven’t heard his named buzzed among Best Actor Oscar candidates yet this year, let me be among the first to throw his hat in that ring.

HACKSAW RIDGE Receives Six Oscar Nominations
Hacksaw Ridge has received six oscar nominations for best picture, best director (Mel Gibson), best actor (Andrew Garfield), film editing, sound mixing, and sound editing. The 89th Oscars ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 26th in Los Angeles and will be aired on ABC with host Jimmy Kimmel.:
Golden Globe Nominations for HACKSAW RIDGE
The nominees for the 2017 Golden Globe Awards have arrived and Hacksaw Ridge received three nominations for Best Picture (Drama), Best Actor (Drama) and Best Director (Drama). The 74th Golden Globe Awards, which are voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be hosted by Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon and will air live on both coasts Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 on NBC.

Deadline: Hacksaw Ridge Sweeps Australian Academy Awards
Mel Gibson’s pacifist World War II drama, Hacksaw Ridge, took five key prizes at the AACTA Awards in Sydney last night. The film won Australia’s equivalent to the Oscar in the Best Film, Best Direction and Best Original Screenplay (Andrew Knight and Robert Schenkkan) categories as well as scooping Best Lead Actor for Andrew Garfield and Best Supporting Actor for Hugo Weaving. The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts had earlier this week given Oz’s highest film honors to Hacksaw Ridge in four craft races: Editing, Cinematography, Production Design and Sound.

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts has set its nominations for Oz’s highest honors in both fields. Leading in the film races is Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge. The pacifist World War II action drama scored 13 nods including Best Film, Best Director, and a mention in each of the acting categories.

After wowing critics at early morning press screenings on Sunday, Mel Gibson’s pacifist World War II action drama, Hacksaw Ridge, had its red carpet world premiere out of competition at the Venice Film Festival last night. The film played to a roughly 10-minute standing ovation — long standing-Os are not as common a happenstance on the Lido as they are at some other festivals.
